The Significance of a Sapphire Ring: Ciel X Reader

Part Three

*This continues on from another one of my deviations, Thief. There's a link in the info section thing if you haven't read it yet. It would help you understand what's going on a fair bit.*

*This is also a second part of a mini-series. The links to the other parts are in the description!*

Anything in italics are your thoughts!

Warning: There's some language and stuff but I'm not sure it's enough to put a filter on.

IMPORTANT: Ciel is 17 in this little mini-series! The big one-seven.

Ciel took his ring and placed it in the centre of the desk in front of you both.

“If I were you, I’d get comfy. This is quite a long story.”

You raised an eyebrow at him. Get comfy? On this piddley stool? You wiggled on the stool, keeping a straight face.

“What are you doing?”

“Getting comfy on a stool.”

A small smile appeared on Ciel’s face. “I’ll call Sebastian.”

Time skip: Five minutes later

You now had a chair and there was some tea set out in front of you.

Jesus. This must be a long story. You wiggled in your new comfy chair and smiled. “Now this is better. We’re at eye level now!”

Ciel sighed. “Where to start?”

You helped yourself to a biscuit.

“Five years ago when I was twelve, a fire burned this very mansion to the ground.”

You nearly choked on your biscuit. Bloody hell. What a place to start.

“My mother and father were killed in the fire. The only things that were recovered were this ring… And Tanaka.”

You raised an eyebrow at ‘Tanaka.’

“Everything I had was gone. Destroyed in one night. It’s funny how fragile life is isn’t it? One moment it’s there, the next it’s gone, and it can never be returned in the same way.” He fixed his eye on the object of discussion. “This ring has been handed down by lots of different Phantomhives. Before it was mine, it was my father’s. It’s been in our family for God knows how long. I suppose it’s the only thing I have left to remember my parents by. The only thing that truly proves I had a life before… that night. That night changed everything. I was never the same after it. And I never can be. Inspect it if you like.”

You carefully picked up the ring, scared of breaking it. “I must say it’s very… beautiful. This would’ve fed me for a long while. Though I’m glad I was caught. To me, I suppose this ring also signifies the start of a new life.” You handed it back to Ciel. “Mine a maid at this manor. Yours the new Queen’s guard dog.”

“Yes… This ring is a part of me. It’s a treasure. My most valuable possession. It’s possibly the only part left of me I own.”

What does he mean by that? “Young master? Will you elaborate on that? After all, you do owe me some ‘personal backstory.’”

“I suppose I do. My mind and body belong to the Queen. I’m her eyes and ears. I’m supposed to take bullets for her. I’m supposed to do whatever it takes to protect her no matter what the physical or mental damage. I’m supposed to figure out, solve, discover, and deal with anything she hands me. Her grip over my mind allows no personal opinions to interfere with my duties. And my heart… My heart is supposed to belong to my fiancée, Elizabeth.”

“You’ve been using ‘supposed’ a lot.”

“Maybe that’s because I’m no longer sure I’m doing the right thing. As long as the Queen’s alive I have to do whatever she says. Anyone who has so much as had a conversation with me could be killed by the enemies I make every day. Elizabeth is my fiancée as well as my cousin. Our marriage doesn’t seem… right. She’d become a target the day after we wed.”

You thought of something. “But what about our spirit? Or your soul if you will?”

The look Ciel gave you sent a cold chill down your spine. His eyes were empty except for regret, pain, and suffering. “That belongs to something entirely out of my control. It was a spur of the moment decision. I didn’t truly think about the consequences. I shouldn’t have done what I did.”

“And… all this… can be tied in with the job that comes with the ring?”

“Yes. All this with a ring.”

Whoa. I don’t know what to say.

“Whoever has this ring is the new Queen’s guard dog. The Queen’s guard dog has few friends. This led to my marriage with Elizabeth. There was no other family we could trust.”

“You can’t just get rid of the ring? Quit being the royal guard dog and focus on your toy company?”

Ciel smiled grimly. “This ring and I are together until death do us part.”

“Well then isn’t there anything more important than that ring?”

“There is actually. There has definitely been an object of desire that’s captivated my attention. One who’s beauty puts my ring to shame. Can you guess who?”

You’re not stupid. You can put two and two together.

“Well shit. It’s me isn’t it?”

Ciel laughed lightly. “Your significance in my life has been far better than this ring. Since you came to the mansion there’s been more… life. The servants are all happier. Sebastian’s been exacting less punishments. And I… I have found a trustworthy person to confide in. Albeit they were a thief. But nonetheless…”

Silence fell between the two. Neither knowing what to say. Ciel had quite literally just confessed to you. And you didn’t know what to say. He’d just poured his heart out to you in telling you about that ring. You knew Ciel was socially awkward (you’d been to enough dances to witness this) so he wasn’t going to come out and say exactly how he was feeling. You’d have to make the first move.

Quietly, you got up from your chair, walked around the desk, sat in Ciel’s lap, then enveloped him in a hug.

At first he stiffened in your hold before relaxing, wrapping his arms around your waist. Ciel nuzzled his head in the crook of your neck.

He sighed contently. “I take it this is a yes then?”

“Of course. Bu where do we go from here? You have a fiancée my Lord. Not to mention I’m a ‘mere servant girl.’”

“Do not worry about mere matters such as those.” He lifted his head so you could gaze into his one ocean blue eye. It was no longer filled with regret. No, this looked a lot more like love as well as a new will to live. “Please. Call me Ciel. No need for ‘young master.’”

You smiled. “Fine Ciel.” You placed a kiss on his cheek. “How long until Sebastian comes barging in?”

“As long as I wish.” Ciel placed a long kiss on your lips.

The final part is here! This could be it for the young master! (Though probably not...)
