Hang on. This wasn’t your target. This was your target’s butler.

“I’ll make this quick and simple.” He held up a white-gloved hand that held polished knives between his knuckles.

“Let me guess. Hand over the stolen treasure or have a knife in my throat?”

“Precisely.” The butler smiled at you.

You took out the stolen treasure and examined it closely. “All this for a ring? Must be important.”

“I will not disclose that information with you thief. Now hand it over or face my master.”

“I’d rather not face your master but you. It should be more interesting this way.” You smirked.

Suddenly the butler dashed towards you as if to grab you. However, your years of experience as a thief paid off, and you dodged him nimbly.

“Now, now Mr. Butler.” You tutted. “Now I have a ring AND a pocket watch.” You held up the second stolen item, a professionally crafted golden pocket watch.

The butler looked at you in astonishment.

You chuckled. “What’s the matter? Never seen a quick thief before?”

He smirked. “Not one that could dodge my attacks.”

“SEBASTIAN!” A voice called from below.

The butler sighed and looked over the edge of the roof to the street below.

“My Lord, I will be with you in a moment.”

You heard the voice scoff. “What’s taking you so long?”

“I believe that would be me.” You also looked over the edge, seeing a young man glaring up at the butler.

You were so preoccupied with pulling faces at the young man below to annoy him that you failed to notice the butler had begun to charge at you yet again. You realised at the last minute and leapt off the roof. You landed swiftly next to the young man.

You gave a mock gasp. “You’re Earl Ciel Phantomhive!”

He took a step back at your sudden appearance. “Sebastian!” He yelled.

The butler in question seemingly teleported next to you, holding a knife to your throat. “Shall we kill her my Lord? If I may, I think it would be a waste to do so.”

“And why is that?” The young man regained his stoic composure.

“Well my Lord. She managed to dodge my attacks.”

His bored expression lit up into one of interest. “Really? In that case…” He turned to face you. “… I’ll be taking you with me.”

“And why would you do that?” You spun the stolen treasure on the tip of your forefinger.

The young man’s eyes fixed on the ring. “I’ve never known any ordinary person to dodge Sebastian’s attacks. Plus, I have three completely useless servants and I’d like one that could aid them with their work. Perhaps then they could do their jobs right.”

“Uh-huh.” You hummed.

“By the way, you don’t get a say in this.” He reached out for the item which you carefully placed in his hand.

“You tried to take something very important from me. And for that you must pay. So you’ll pay with service. Let’s go Sebastian.”

Sebastian threw you over his shoulder before setting off next to his master.

“All this for a ring?” You muttered.
